The University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Optometry invites applicants for Instructor faculty positions. Successful candidates will be expected to advance and contribute to the educational, clinical, service and scholarship missions of the School.
This is an exceptional opportunity to both engage in the education of optometry students and/or vision science graduate students, and establish or continue scholarly and clinical advancements in all areas related to optometry and vision science in the broadest sense. The position of the UAB School of Optometry within the medical center creates an opportunity for clinical and curricular advancement.
Classroom (didactic) and and/or clinical laboratory teaching within the UAB School of Optometry professional and graduate programs.
Supervision of student-delivered patient care within UAB Eye Care and its affiliated clinics (for those with the OD degree).
Participation in continued curriculum review and development, and community/ professional service activities.
Consultation on clinic and online educational activities in specialty areas. Requirements:

Preference given to those with a Doctor of Optometry (OD) degree from an accredited school or college of optometry, in addition to advanced training or degrees such as PhD, MPH, or MS.
Eligible for licensure to practice the full scope of Optometry in the state of Alabama (those with the OD degree).
Completion of a residency/fellowship program or a minimum of three years equivalent clinical experience (for those with only the OD degree).
Evidence of activity in the area of expertise.
